Spaceflight Museum History Tour

Click the  ▶  to play the tour audio:

The narrator will tell you how to make the carpet start moving.

Don’t See a Play Button ( ▶) to Click?

If you’re reading this web page in a web browser inside Second Life and don’t see a play button ( ▶) above, then just click the SL browser button that says ‘Open in My Web Browser’:

The Audio Player Doesn’t Work?

The audio player above uses Adobe Flash Player, which you may need to install or update. If you don’t want to use Flash, then click here to play or download the tour audio file (an mp3 file). The outcome of clicking that link depends on what web browser you’re using.

You can pause and restart the audio narration, but you shouldn’t do any pausing once the tour begins. The carpet doesn’t know what you’re hearing; it assumes you listen to the audio narration straight through once you’ve completed the synchronization step (as explained in the narration).

For A Better Tour

  • Avoid taking the tour when there are a lot of avatars in the sim (Spaceport Alpha). You can check by opening the Mini-Map and counting green dots.
  • Mute all audio from Second Life during the tour: click the speaker icon (above the Mini-Map button) in the lower right corner of your SL window.
  • In Second Life, go to the top menu and select World - Environment Settings - Midday
  • In the SL top menu, select Edit - Preferences - Graphics. Click the button “Recommended Settings”
  • Make sure you have the latest graphics card driver installed on your computer. If you don’t know what that means, then ask a geek friend.

Weird!

Q: This is a weird way to get the audio narration. Why did you do it this way?

A: We don’t use SL sounds, music streams, media streams, or voice chat because they are unsuitable for tours, low-quality, or unreliable. External web browsers can play audio files with high quality and reliability.
